Synopsis:

The third season follows the four families across time in the wake of the apocalypse in 2020. It introduces a parallel world tethered to the first. The third season continues 1954, 1987, 2020, and 2053 storylines in the first world, while also adding a new 1888 storyline and 2019 and 2052 in the second world, as the factions further their own desires for each world. The season also showcases the main events between all of these years, continuing the events of the season while also serving as a backstory for the events of the first two seasons.

Dark is a German science fiction thriller television series co-created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese. It ran for three seasons from 2017 to 2020. The story follows characters from the fictional town of Winden, Germany, as they pursue the truth in the aftermath of a child’s disappearance. They follow connections between four estranged families to unravel a sinister time-travel conspiracy that spans several generations. The series explores the existential implications of time and its effect on human nature and life. It features an ensemble cast.

Dark debuted on 1 December 2017 on Netflix; it is the service’s first German-language original series. The second season was released on 21 June 2019, while the third and final season was released on 27 June 2020. Dark received widespread critical acclaim for its cast, direction, writing, tone, visuals, musical score, and the ambition and complexity of its narrative. In 2021, the BBC ranked the series as the 58th greatest TV series of the 21st century.

Sex & Nudity – Moderate:

Episode 1:

  • Brief but graphic sex scene
  • At 09 minute 10 seconds: A boy and a girl have sex, we can see the boy on top of the girl and her breasts are very visible, there’s moaning, as well. All of the scene takes a total of 20 secs.
  • At around 33 minutes, we have another sex scene between the same couple. No nudity, but still explicit. The scene lasts a least 1 minute.

Episode 2:

  • A boy and a girl have sex. The boy’s bare back is visible as he thrusts into the girl. For a split second, the boy’s butt and one of the girl’s breasts are also just visible.

Episode 3:

  • A picture of nude Adam and Eve is shown. Genitalia is not exposed.

Episode 4:

  • A boy and a girl make out. They then undress each other and have sex. The girl’s breasts are quite explicitly visible during intercourse.
  • Brief scene. Two girls look at a pornographic magazine, breasts and buttocks can be seen for a couple of seconds.
  • Just after the intro a man and a woman have sex. The woman’s breasts can be seen as the man thrusts into her. Very graphic and explicit.
  • An adolescent girl takes off her dress in front of an adolescent boy. However, nothing below her shoulders or above her knees is shown.

Episode 5:

  • A man attempts to rape an adolescent girl but her father appears and stops him. No nudity or even partial nudity is shown.
  • A boy and a girl make out.

Episode 6:

  • No nudity.

Episode 7:

  • A man and a woman briefly kiss.
  • A few couples are seen having sex. This scene many times includes women’s breasts.

Episode 8:

Violence & Gore – Moderate:

  • An old man and a young woman are murdered by being choked with a fiber wire.
  • A group of men threaten another man at gunpoint.
  • A boy recounts how he was abused at a children’s group home where his arm was seemingly used as an ashtray.
  • A man slams an adolescent girl’s head into a door causing her to pass out. He then ties her hands and legs and holds her captive.
  • A woman attempts to rob another woman at knifepoint. The victim escapes and the robber pursues her. During the pursuit, the robber loses her knife. Eventually, the two begin tussling. The robber hits the victim on the head with a rock and then attempts to steal from her bag, however, the victim uses the same rock to hit the robber on the head. She repeatedly does this until the robber dies. She then weighs her down with rocks and drags her into the lake.
  • A girl is tied to a pole where an explosion takes place.
  • A woman shoots another woman dead.
  • A man strangles and kills a woman.
  • A man strangles another man.
  • A woman attacks a girl with a knife, leaving a deep scar on her cheek, next to her eye.

Profanity – Mild:

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – Mild:

  • A drunk woman publicly accuses her husband of being an adulterer.
  • A man drinks heavily in grief.
  • A group of people drinks at a party.

Frightening & Intense Scenes – Moderate:

  • A boy’s corpse with his eyes and ears scorched is found.
  • A man attempts to commit suicide but is unable to.
  • A woman dies during childbirth.
  • A few people are murdered with guns and knives at various intervals in series. These scenes are very less graphic.
  • The entire atmosphere of the final episode is intense. Emotional finale
  • A man begins to forcefully undress an adolescent girl that he kidnapped. Suddenly, the girl’s father appears and pushes him off her, and the two tussle. However, the man hits the father on the head with a metal can. He then stabs a knife inside the father’s neck. This is quite graphic as the knife is seen slowly entering the father’s neck while the two struggle. Suddenly, the girl, who freed herself, hits the man on the head with a fire extinguisher. Having lost her mind, she repeatedly hits the man until his skull cracks and he dies. The girl is left bloody.
  • A woman is beaten to death with a rock
